Oliver Cromwell 2009

When Cromwell did his thing to the Rump parliament he was leaving them in no doubt about their position, they were no longer acting in the interest of the country. His speech was:

"It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue and defiled by your every vice.

"Ye are a pack of mercenary wretches and like ESAU sell your country for a mess of pottage and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

"Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess?

"Ye have no more religion than my horse. Gold is your God.

"Which of you has not bartered your conscience with bribes?

"Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the commonwealth?

"Ye furdid prostitutes have you not defiled this sacred place and turned the Lord's temple into a den of thieves by your immoral principles and wicked practices?

"Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation.

"You were deputed here to get grievances redressed; are not yourselves become the greatest grievance?

"Your country therefore calls upon me to to cleanse the Augean stable by putting a final period to your iniquitous proceedings in this house and which by God's help and the strength he has given me I am now come to do.

"I command ye therefore upon the peril of your lives to depart immediately out of this place...

"Go and get out, make haste ye venal slaves be gone - so take away that shining bauble there and lock up the doors".

Does that sound vaguely familiar in this current climate? Any offers for someone to be a 2009 Cromwell without the dictatorial aspect?

Cromwell offered the corrupt no compromise but Historians are a little unkind to label him evil dictator in spite of his religious persecutions.

There is rarely a choice to exercise between 'dictatorship' or thoroughly corrupt Establishment. Citizens observe a spontaneous event following generalised mistrust and oppression.

If I had the energy I would tell them in no uncertain terms, but I haven't, despite the will and a gobby disposition regarding injustices.

Seems like the media are doing a good job of "clearing out the muck", by exposing it in all its stinking "glory." About the abuse of expenses at least, which is a start to clean up the stinking system. There may be a few more surprises yet to come.

There are a few decent people in the House, and they have stood up to the "odious element" within it.
It is high time that someone put an end to Gordon and his gang of bandits sitting in that place, because he and they have dishonoured it by their ruthless deceit, cunning, lies, plotting and guile. An utter disgrace.
The buck stops with him in No10 and I pray with all sincerety, that his chickens come home to roost, sooner rather than later, because he has placed the people of this country in mortal peril, and covered that up. But then so have the Tories, to their shame.

On the day that the Speaker is forced to stand down, there has been talk of "cleaning up the system", an end to sleaze and a new era of change. Another load of spin and nonsense that just does not match with the reality of what has gone on. Mr Speaker, suddenly all meek and mild, gave a short resignation speach, in which he said that the House is at its best when in agreement.

That must be SPIN for the fact that a Tory MP on the government Intelligence committee, spouted blatant LIES to further a cover up over 7-7, and whether or not it could have been prevented. He said not, and told lies to cover the backsides of top cops and two female ex heads of Intelligence, and of course the government.

Interestingly, a Military Intelligence Officer did not agree with the government spin and deception over the 7-7 bombings.
It is true that the government had kept the S.I.S short of funding which hindered their efficiency.
However, the Met and the S.I.S HAD accurate and credible Intelligence which gave names and dates of terror plots, in great detail, bizarre as this may sound, it is a fact, a documented fact.

The S.I.S were just disorganised and a bit arrogant and dismissive about the Intelligence information, not quite believing it to be credible, until it actually happened. And THEN they got a grip on the situation and from the Intelligence documents, after the 2005 plots of 7-7, 21 and 22-7, the S.I.S PREVENTED a number of terror plots, saving many millions of lives- Beijing.

The government would prefer to cover up their negligence and the mistakes that have been made, because it is embarrassing for them. Gordon wants to carry on with his own Orwellian agenda, of a Big Brother snooping state with I.D cards and databases, and Nuclear power stations etc, which the Intelligence warned was the wrong road to go down for this country, and the wider world.

The deceptions, lies and trickery that has gone on behind closed doors, just beggars belief. There is also a government cover up, or has been, regarding the sexual abuse of children, by men in positions of power and authority.
The system is stinking and rotten.

I hope that Cromwell has reincarnated, to deal with this cess-pit in Westminster, on both sides of the House. We need him. Now.

Davebones,

you and yours don't quite match up to Cromwell!

Who would Cromwell be.....Sunni, you or another person? Certainly not telling you my thoughts on that anarchist who proposed violence prior to G 20. Shit,,,, said I'd never mention it again.

You all protest and slate the government. I slate the Govt. but I don't protest because at the end of the day there is no-one around like Cromwell who can storm in, knob them all off and take the reigns. What would the protesters have done if they found Parliament empty if they gained access to it? Would some mythological figure have risen from the ranks of the scarf wearing and declared themselves to be leader? No, they would have wrecked the place and slunk off quietly in the night once the great oppressors (us) arrived.

You know I can do reasonable and informed argument from my brief sojourn on pickled politics.

I just don't see the point of protest, we do stop protesters from getting out of hand but at the end of the day you and others are not likely to ever storm Parliament and somehow lead the country from the political turmoil it is in now.

If I am wrong please feel free to contradict me, I am open to all criticism as you know.

Regards.

Looking for leaders is totally part of the problem. We have to do it. We the people. Have you seen V for vendetta? Its worth a go. Turn round next time and start storming. see what happens. What could go wrong?

I have seen V for Vendetta. It is a story loosly based on a truth and what happened to a real person in their early life. The "vendetta" by V, is an act of righting wrongs and exposing corruption in government, who were/are seeking to totally control and oppress the population by extreme surveillance, and by spreading fear. Sound familiar?

The message that V gave out on his "final battle", was that it is FEAR that can and must be conquered to become free people, united against tyrants in government. The people need to take a stand and say enough is enough. No more of this abuse.
And for having the courage and determination to challenge a corrupt system and individuals, they did their best to harm V by malicious lies and smears, and eventually to kill V, to silence him.

In real life, the person who inspired the film V, never actually killed nor kidnapped anyone, but fought a "war of words" with an oppressive and corrupt system, and eventually changed it.
